Middle of May in the Mountains

Well, it's still snowing. After a beautiful warm weekend woke up to heavy snow falling and about 3" on the ground. Forecast is for snow to continue through Friday, take a break Saturday and start up again Sunday. Oh well, life in the mountains!

This past Friday, the golf course at Tuhaye opened and I joined some clients/friends, for an opening round of golf. Kind of like being on first chair of opening day of ski season, we were first tee time on opening day of golf season. Now, for an unabashed plug for yoga. I started participating in yoga classes last winter and have continued on a regular basis, (for those that know me, the image of me doing yoga is interesting). In spite of all my injuries, that first day on the golf course, I hit the ball further and more consistent than I have for a couple years. So, no matter how humorous the thought of me doing yoga is, I will have to admit that the stretching and core exercises are beneficial. As a benefit of Talisker membership, both yoga and fitness classes are offered complimentary each week. Along with the on mountain lounge, golf course, spa, private fishing waters and jet boats, the fitness classes really make the club stand out.

Other than a break in the weather for a weekend of golf and bike riding, it's pretty quiet this time of year. Very few restaurants open, no visitors in town, and half the locals have left for warmer climates. Probably the most interesting real estate news concerns the new Montage Hotel in Deer Valley. A year ago, March, prior to opening, Montage offered their first release of condominiums for sale. For the first 15 buyers, Montage was offering a 20% discount, Deer Valley ski passes for the family for 2 years, and a free stay for the family at the Montage at Laguna Beach, California. From that point until the beginning of this year's ski season, Montage had sold two condominiums. Once the Montage opened for business last December, to the end of this ski season, they sold an additional 12 condos, which leaves only one more condominium available under the initial incentive program. Once the 15th condo has been sold, I suspect that they will offer an additional incentive program, but not quite as good as the one currently in place. In addition to the Montage, real estate in the Park City area continues to be strong for this time of year with the focus continuing to be on good deals for resort properties. I am also seeing a shift towards the summer business of single family homes in the outlying areas.

So for now, I will just put up with the snow and wait for the warm weather to arrive. On Thursday of this week, my resort colleagues from Lake Tahoe, Sun Valley, and Vail are coming to town to participate on a panel discussion for the Park City Board of Realtors. So next week, look for an update on what's happening in our neighboring resorts.
